Inside the ultra-luxury superyacht setting sail through Europe

SWN | Travel Weekly | 28 Feb 2023

Uluru is making headlines this week as it’s just been announced as the location of the world’s largest ongoing drone show, created in collaboration with the local community. It’s just one more reason to visit the sacred Aboriginal site. Like Uluru, Australia’s South West doesn’t really need that kind of spectacle to draw visitors in. Find out all the other reasons why we’re in love with the region.

On the world stage, the ultra-luxury Scenic Eclipse II superyacht is set for its debut on a Portugal-to-Spain route this April. If it wasn’t enough that the yacht had two helicopters in its fleet, it’s also got a specially designed submarine to take guests on sub-sea adventures.

EUROPE

Scenic Eclipse II to set sail through Europe this April

Sip on a glass of the finest French Champagne aboard Scenic Eclipse II as it sets sail on its maiden voyage on April 13th. You’ll follow the 11-day Incredible Iberian Discovery itinerary, traversing the Atlantic from the vibrant city of Lisbon to Barcelona’s colour and art-filled streets.

But this is no regular all-inclusive cruise; this is the epitome of ultra-luxury. Not content with just five stars, the Scenic Eclipse II superyacht boasts six, taking it beyond the best consumer ships out there.

Destination of the week

Taipei, Taiwan

Taipei is a city of contrasts; it's where old meets new, neon meets stone, and boisterous meets subdued. So seamlessly do these contrasts blend that you can experience two completely different sides of the city with little to no effort. Wander the streets to find historic temples neatly tucked between apartment buildings and traditional Chinese medicine stores among cutting-edge coffee stores. Come night, the air fills with the sizzle of street food vendors. There’s aromatic beef noodles and the unmistakable smell of chou doufu, a rather pungent Taiwanese delicacy. You can smell the brine, vegetable, and meat-fermented tofu well before you find the vendor. Not feeling that brave? Head to the home of xiao long bao (soup-filled dumplings), Din Tai Fung, at the base of the bamboo-shaped Taipei 101 building. Preface your meal with a spot of luxury shopping and a trip to the observation deck at the top of the building.
